Meet the Team

Discern, personified

Laurence Moskowitz, Managing Partner of Discern Strategies, is widely regarded as an expert in crisis communications, issues management and strategic corporate communications.

Larry founded a number of communications companies during his career, including one he took public and expanded globally with offices and affiliates across the U.S., the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. His firms won multiple awards and international recognition. He engineered more than dozen acquisitions and developed joint ventures with the Associated Press, Bloomberg, and Philips Electronics, among other international media and technology companies.

More recently, he founded Lumentus in 2009 after recognizing that technology and client service needs were changing how public relations, marketing and advertising firms must operate.

A communications pioneer, Larry has leveraged emerging technologies throughout his career to provide business and professional communicators with more powerful and effective means of reaching their audiences.

Larry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University, where he was Kappa Tau Alpha in communications. He has lectured on public relations and online media at New York University, the BBC in London and Denmark Television in Copenhagen, NewsXchange in Barcelona and numerous professional groups around the world.

Jim Gold, Senior Project Director at Discern Strategies, brings a combination of multimedia skills and global communications experience to the firm’s clients.

Previously, he was an executive at Lumentus, where he worked with numerous financial services firms and not-for-profit organizations.

Early in his career, Jim worked at ABC News and later in an editorial role at Morgan Stanley. Later, he provided consulting services specializing in global communications strategy, media relations, and major event management in New York and London.

In 2002, he was managing director NewsXchange, organizing international broadcast media conferences in multiple European cities on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union. He headed all aspects of developing, funding, marketing, programming and managing these highly successful events. He later replicated that success with the Abu Dhabi-based Arab Broadcast Forum.

In 2009, he was a senior manager for the inaugural Doha Tribeca Film Festival and later helped create the Doha Film Institute.

Jim graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in communications.

Tracey Doull is Head of Client Success for Discern Strategies. Her background in media relations in the U.S. and Europe, and as an entrepreneur gave her hands-on experience to achieve superior results for the firm’s clients.

During Tracey’s almost 25 years of experience as a public relations and communications professional, she served as Director of Media Relations at a global broadcast public relations firm. With her excellent organizational skills and results-driven ethos, she managed a team of media content and placement professionals, scheduled broadcast interviews, and coordinated international live events.

Tracey holds a bachelor of science degree from Syracuse University in Speech Communication.
